Walnut Shell
Walnut shell is an eco-friendly natural abrasive that replaces silica sand in the surface-treatment sector: its hard yet non-shattering structure cleans metal, aluminium and delicate surfaces effectively without scratching, and eliminates the respiratory risk caused by silica dust. It can also serve as fuel — at 4,000–4,400 kcal/kg it suits biomass systems. It is likewise in demand as a raw material for activated carbon and cosmetic peeling granules. Mesh size can be prepared to customer specification; supply by the truckload for domestic delivery and export is available.
- High Calorific Value, Low Ash A high lignin content gives the highest calorific range among the shells; ~1.3% ash fouls the boiler little.
- Safe Alternative to Silica Sand In sandblasting it eliminates the silicosis risk of silica dust; it cleans without scratching the surface.
- Requested Mesh, Supply by the Truckload Mesh size prepared to customer specification; truckload shipment domestic and export.
Areas of Use
- Metal and surface sandblasting granule Its hard yet non-shattering structure cleans metal, aluminium and delicate surfaces without scratching, removing the respiratory risk of silica sand.
- Biomass fuel Thanks to its high lignin content it has the highest calorific-value range among the shells and burns efficiently with low ash.
- Pellet production Its dense structure gives high bulk density and durable pellets as a pellet raw material.
- Activated-carbon raw material Its high carbon content makes it a preferred input for activated-carbon production in the filtration and treatment sector.
- Cosmetic peeling Finely ground, it is used as a natural, biodegradable peeling granule in cosmetic formulations.
Technical Reference Values
As one of the species with the highest lignin content in the shell group (~48%), walnut shell reaches the highest higher-heating-value (HHV) range; its very low ash content (~1.3%) both improves combustion efficiency and provides a clean abrasive for sandblasting.
| Higher heating value (HHV) | 4,400 – 4,900 kcal/kg (18.4 – 20.5 MJ/kg) |
|---|---|
| Lower heating value (LHV) | 4,000 – 4,400 kcal/kg (16.9 – 18.4 MJ/kg) |
| Moisture content | 6–8% |
| Ash content | ~1.3% (low) |
Values are reference ranges drawn from biomass literature; they may vary with the product’s origin, harvest period and moisture. Analysis values specific to the shipment are shared on request.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is walnut shell preferred in sandblasting?
With its hard yet non-shattering structure, walnut shell cleans metal, aluminium, wood and restoration surfaces without scratching. Unlike silica sand it does not create fine dust that causes silicosis through inhalation; this makes it an eco-friendly abrasive that is safe for operator health.
What is its calorific value; is it good as fuel?
Thanks to its high lignin content, walnut shell has the highest calorific range in the shell group, with a higher heating value (HHV) of 4,400–4,900 kcal/kg. Its low ash content (~1.3%) lets it burn efficiently and with little waste in biomass boilers.
In which mesh sizes is it available?
For sandblasting and cosmetic applications, the mesh (grain) size is ground to customer requirements. If you specify your application, we will clarify the appropriate range together.
Where is it used besides fuel and sandblasting?
With its high carbon content it is also used as a raw material in activated-carbon production, finely ground as a cosmetic peeling granule, and as a filler/raw material in pellet production.
How do minimum order and delivery work?
We usually supply walnut shell by the truckload, and in smaller lots on request. We ship to all provinces of Türkiye and for export; for a sample and a quote you can reach us via WhatsApp or the contact form.
Walnut Shell Price & Delivery
Walnut Shell has no fixed list price; the per-tonne, big-bag and sack price depends on the harvest, moisture and cleanliness, packaging and delivery distance. For the current walnut shell per-tonne, sack and kg price and a wholesale quote, contact us — we reply within 24 hours.
From our Malatya base we ship across Türkiye and for export (EXW/FOB). Minimum order: 1 truckload (~21 tonnes). Packaging: Bulk · Big bag · Sack.
